Apart from the tech, we care a lot about user experience and aim to make complex technologies accessible to everyone. ### A quick run-down of the job We are looking for multiple **Senior Backend Engineers** who will lead the design, development, and maintenance of our backend systems, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and secure. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including frontend developers, product managers, and designers, to deliver high-quality software solutions that drive our success. The position will report to our Backend Lead. ### The current tech stack of LI.FI utilizes: - Node.js running TypeScript code in Docker containers - MongoDB and Redis for our data - ethers.js for communication with the blockchains - Github, Kubernetes, AWS and CloudFlare for our GitOps CD chain **Please note: You must be located in the EMEA or APAC regions and have technical understanding of blockchain. Your application will not be considered otherwise.** ### What you'll do - Leading and actively participating in the design, development, and maintenance of backend systems and APIs - Architecting and implementing scalable and robust backend solutions that can handle growing user loads and evolving business needs - Maintaining high coding standards, conduct code reviews, and ensuring best practices for code maintainability and readability - Identifying bottlenecks and optimizing code and algorithms to improve system performance - Implementing monitoring and debugging tools to proactively identify and resolve issues, ensuring high system availability - Developing and maintaining comprehensive test suites, including unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests, to ensure the reliability of backend systems - Providing guidance and mentorship to junior developers, helping them grow their technical skills - Analyzing complex technical problems and propose effective solutions to address them - Documenting code, APIs, and technical processes to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team and support onboarding of new developers ### What makes a good candidate - Must be located in the EMEA region - Strong experience with TypeScript is required - Experience working with the Stellar network in production environments - Previous experience in the blockchain space, with a technical understanding of the EVM ecosystem (or other blockchain ecosystems), is a plus - Extensive professional experience in a similar role (senior or lead level) - Solid understanding of document databases and caching mechanisms - Experience in software design and system architecture - Strong knowledge of testing frameworks and best practices - Excellent communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and analytical skills - Proactive mindset with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively - Ability to write maintainable, scalable, production-grade code - Curiosity for new technologies and the ability to evaluate and suggest improvements independently - Very strong written and verbal English skills for effective communication with team members and stakeholders - Experience with Stellar’s Soroban smart contracts is a plus - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science is a plus ### Company culture - **Embracing the differences** - Embrace your own differences - Respect and welcome the unique qualities of others - See others’ differences as an opportunity to grow - **Own it, do it** - Own tasks end-to-end - Hold yourself to a high bar for execution - Make bold decisions, and be accountable - Understand your limitations and seek for help - **Fail forward** - Try - don’t be afraid to fail - Learn - don’t make the same mistake twice - Adapt - grow with the experience - **Have fun together** - Take the time to get to know and understand each other better - Don’t take yourself too seriously and keep it light-hearted - Fun should be coming from a place of love and respect ### What you’ll get - Annual team offsites (Thailand in 2023 and Vietnam in 2024 were a blast, Marrakech in March 2025 was blast-ier; let’s see what happens in 2026!) - 30 days of PTO - Flexible remote days - Flexible working hours - Equity participation from day 1 - Entitlement to work computer (choice of equipment) - An annual 1,000€ personal development budget once you have worked 6+ months (pro-rated the first year) - A one-time 1,000€ remote budget to use on coworking, office setup, etc. *If you join us as an independent contractor, you’re only entitled to the first five benefits of this list.* ### Application process Setting yourself up for success starts with the application! This dual IC and team lead role combines hands-on execution with strategic oversight, balancing internal team performance with quality and speed of execution. You’ll own the hiring roadmap, implement hiring strategy and ensure the quality and efficiency of all hiring processes. Half of your focus will be on operational recruitment in the Web3 space, while the other half will focus on strategic initiatives, improvements and the upskilling and mentoring of the Talent team.
