Ideal candidates have former **Audit Manager** experience from a regional or national firm or an equivalent background who want a strategic, "hands-on" advisory role. You will be a technical anchor for our clients, ensuring their financial statements are audit-ready, scalable, and investor-compliant. ## Your Typical, Atypical Day ### Technical Oversight & Financial Preparation - Leverage your audit manager background to prepare monthly and annual GAAP financial statements and complex footnote disclosures that stand up to audit scrutiny. - Conduct technical review on complex, non-routine accounting positions and significant client deliverables. - Act as the internal technical expert, drafting and implementing accounting policies for startups (e.g., ASC 606 for SaaS, ASC 718 for stock-based comp, and capitalized software). - Build and monitor internal control frameworks right-sized for startups—balancing risk mitigation with the speed of a remote, fast-paced environment. - Define, document, and enforce the quality control framework for client deliverables, including review checklists, sampling methodologies, and standards for technical accounting documentation. - Serve as a technical resource to internal client service teams, offering guidance, training, and documentation support on technical accounting standards and appropriate accounting. - Manage the tracking for internal issues and significant review points identified by the QC function, ensuring timely and effective remediation efforts are in place. ### Strategic Management Accounting - Translate complex data into clear narratives for founders, focusing on cash flow management, unit economics, and "what-if" scenario modeling. - Design real-time tracking for SaaS or E-commerce metrics (CAC, LTV, Churn) to drive data-backed board decisions. - Streamline the "close-to-report" cycle using cloud-based tech stacks. ### Remote Client Advisory - Serve as the primary point of contact for founders, providing high-level oversight typically expected of a Controller or Audit Manager. - Lead clients through their first institutional audits, managing the relationship with external firms to ensure a seamless process. ## About You - 7+ years of progressive accounting experience. Considered a plus if the experience includes several years as an **Audit Manager** at a regional or national firm. - Exceptional command of U.S. GAAP and the ability to research and document complex technical positions independently. - CPA is preferred, given the emphasis on technical reporting and audit-readiness. - Advanced proficiency in asynchronous communication (Slack & Karbon) and a self-starting approach to managing multiple client deadlines. ## Core Competencies - Expert-level knowledge of **QuickBooks Online (QBO)**, **Xero**, or **Sage Intacct**. - Proficiency with **Bill.com**, **Gusto**, **Rippling**, and **Expensify** for automated AP/AR and payroll. - Mastery of **Microsoft Excel** or **Google Sheets** (advanced formulas, Pivot Tables). From facilitating meetings to overseeing monthly and yearly financial closes, no day will be a typical day (hence the typical, atypical day). - You will be overseeing all accounting operations, including invoicing, payroll, financial analysis and reporting, monthly closes, accounts receivable and payable, and more. - As a part of this, you will need to roll up your sleeves and get deep into some Excel/Gsheets work on a regular basis. - You will be supervising, coaching and growing our current internal finance team. - You will be on a constant lookout to identify opportunities for automation and system and process improvements, and will proactively create and implement efficient, smart solutions for the team. - You’ll be working with a variety of different tasks, so the ability to shift context, communicate, prioritize, and evaluate needs is central to this role. - You will be working in a fully remote capacity! This is a great role for anyone wanting flexibility, autonomy, and variety. ## Your Typical, Atypical, Day ### Inventory Accounting & Control - Own inventory valuation, reconciliation, and cycle/physical count auditing across client portfolios - Ensure accuracy between physical counts and system records; investigate and resolve variances quickly - Apply and maintain appropriate costing methodologies (FIFO, LIFO, weighted average) by client and industry - Identify and reduce shrinkage, obsolescence, and carrying cost exposure ### Financial Reporting & Analysis - Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP - Deliver detailed inventory reports, COGS analysis, and gross margin insights tailored to each client's business model - Build and maintain management reporting packages that drive real decisions, not just check compliance boxes ### Operational Optimization - Analyze supply chain metrics including inventory turnover, days-on-hand, and reorder points - Develop and implement procedures to prevent stockouts, reduce overstocking, and improve working capital efficiency - Partner with operations and fulfillment teams to align financial controls with day-to-day workflows ### Systems & Process Management - Lead ERP and inventory software implementations, migrations, and optimization projects - Train client staff on accounting procedures, controls, and system best practices - Maintain data integrity across platforms and ensure audit-ready records at all times ### Strategic Advisory - Serve as a trusted financial advisor to founders and leadership teams on cash flow, purchasing strategy, and growth planning - Provide budgeting, forecasting, and scenario modeling with particular focus on inventory investment and COGS - Proactively flag financial risks and opportunities — you're a partner, not just a reporter - Participate in developing and supporting strategic & financial plans - Support with new revenue streams - Due Diligence, ASC606, equity, GAAP compliance, Audit Preparation - Support pricing decisions.
